NPTI, HPTC has been set up by the Ministry of Power, Govt. of India at Nangal (Punjab) and it was dedicated to Nation on dated 16th December 2009.The first batch for training of 52-weeks duration PGDC (Thermal) and 39-weeks PGDC (Hydro) started in same year.
NPTI, HPTC Complex is established in 15 acres of picturesque landscape situated on the left bank of satluj river near Nangal Dam just 12 Km before Bhakra Dam in the state of Punjab. The Institute is 2 Kms from Nangal Dam Railway Station and 1 Kms. from Bus-stand. Nangal /Nangal Dam is well connected by Rail / Road from Chandigarh (100 Km) / Delhi (400 Km) and nearest Air Port is at Chandigarh.
NPTI, HPTC plays an important role in the field of HRD in the Power Sector as an pioneer Training Institute In the field of Thermal & Hydro Power Generation. So far five batches of PGDC (Thermal) & PGDC (Hydro) have successfully completed training at this Institute. In addition, large number of short & medium term training Programmes for Power Plant personnel has been conducted as per specific requirement of sponsoring organizations. The trainees at this institute are getting ample opportunities for practical training both in Thermal & Hydro Power Generation at nearby Hydro & Thermal Power Stations.
250MW Hydro Simulator, replica of Natpha Jhakri Hydro Power station (SJVNL) is installed at this institute and it is in operation since 2011 for imparting Simulator Training for Engineers/Operators of Hydro Power plants.
